The Beautiful Aim? Average footballer from Stockton to Premiership footballer in one year? [Sep. 22nd, 2008|05:11 pm]
Middlesbrough FC LJ Community

sushi_i
I just thought that this might be interesting to some people (sorry if it has been posted previously).

A friend of mine with the guidance of a team of experts is currently attempting to go from 23 year old fanatic with average footballing skill to a Premiership footballer in just one year.

He is recording his journey through with regular mini-documentaries, video diaries and blogs on his website at

http://www.thebeautifulaim.com/

Here is trailor for his documentary on Youtube:

There is more information on his website and I'm sure he would appreciate any comments, advice and help.

How good did we look on Saturday? If Woodgate manages to stay fit I can't see many teams breaking down our defence any more. Euell was also looking lively, running and creating chances where he could. We'll have to wait and see about Huth, but I think Gareth has done well for his first few signings. Oh, except Arca. No idea why we bought him. He's not a premiership player as he so ably demonstrated with Sunderland, he really isn't a defender usually playing in midfield, and in the one place we don't really need anyone else fighting over. It boggles the mind what Southgate was thinking.
Anyway, shame about Boateng really. Not saying he didn't deserve the cards, he probably did, but he should know better. Styles was awful though, it appeared to me that every 50/50 was given to Arsenal and even when we did nothing it would be a foul to Arsenal. Not at all surprised we came out of that with 7 yellow cards. He is almost certainly the worst referee in the premiership, not that I'm at all bitter!

So, apparently, I've just been made the maintainer of this here community. Sounds jolly good to me. I know this doesn't really get used a lot, but I'm going to start putting up match reports, transfer news, and all that shebang up, make this place a bit more lively. If anyone else has any ideas to improve the place, then feel free to say so!

been thinking how middlesbrough can have a pretty good season and it all goes back to the 4-0 drubbing by villa,

after Boro go on a winless streak of 2 or 3 games (mixture of draws and defeats) then at the 3rd or 4th game if Boro are losing get someone to throw their season ticket at McClaren, then after that we'll win 3 games on the bounce scoring 6 goals, then reapeat it till the end of the season and until McClaren quits, but remember to use a different person each time

well we have a replay

didn't catch who was on the left but did catch the starting 11 and no johnston starting?, this would have been a perfect game for him to show what he's got, along with cattermole in the centre, morisson on the right and taylor at left back this game was made for the youngsters, and no subs over the 90 minutes???, sorry the managers has lost it, no wonder the players want out, he's lost them and i dont mean he cant find them

and why does he keep on playing doriva, he's a waste of space

sack him now!!!!!!

[music |Green Day - When I Come Around]

"Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren has been told he must sell players if he is to bring in any new faces during the January transfer window.

Boro chief executive Keith Lamb blamed the scenario on falling crowds.

"If the solution to filling the ground is reducing ticket prices then we'll have to cut our cloth," he said.

"Steve wants to strengthen but he knows we have a surplus of players in some positions so it's reasonable to expect players to leave before we sign more."

Striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is widely reported to be one player who could be sacrificed, while Ray Parlour, Massimo Maccarone and Szilard Nemeth are also thought to be vulnerable."

ok i can understand getting rid of parlour, maybe hasselbaink due to his high wages and nemeth since he's looking for 1st team football but maccarone as well??????

call me stupid but tho we have 7 strikers why get rid of 3 strikers, who'll replace vids when he's injured and yak if he has to go to the african nations, as that'll leave one striker at the club and he aint even fit (christie) and the other one (graham) is on loan, unless he's planning on recalling graham back but he needs more time on loan to develop,

i'd rather see parlour and nemeth sold along with the dead weights such as ehiogu and doriva, bring in a defensive mid if boateng is going to leave in the summer and for the time being play rochemback as the defensive mid as i think he's more suited there, bring in a centre back in as i think its time to think about replacing southgate and to challenge riggot, bring young andrew davis back from loan to replace ehiogu and get a right back in so our other young centre back bates can challenge davis and play in his more favoured position,

i also think its time to release christie, he's a good player and he's been unlucky with injuries but he hasn't the quality to challenge for a place in the team plus its wages we could use on a new player , i think if he didn't have so many injuries he would have turned out to be a good player

Anyone out there at the West Brom game today and slightly worried about our form after europe?
To be honest if we are going to play like that I would prefer us not to be in europe and to concentrate on premiership games. For me the league is so much more important than the UEFA cup.

My thoughts at the moment are with the family and friends of the boro fan killed in Amsterdam, such a random and unneccessary death. I only hope justice is done and they can find some peace.

And goodbye to George Best. A brilliant, magnificent footballer who deserves to be remembered as such. There'll never be another man like him.
Pundits can go to hell if they think Rooney is the new Best, like hell he is.

Hi.

I just found this community as was distressed to notice that no one had updated it since May! Is this the apathy of boro supporters that was worryingly evident in the Xanthi game at the riverside. 14,000. It has to be a joke.

We are in the greatest spell that boro has ever seen. In Europe, challenging for places at the top of the table rather than fighting our way off the bottom (like Newcastle and Sunderland, hehe) and most importantly with a rather fine and shiny major trophy in our cabinet. Where is the excitement and energy I used to see in fans when we were a lowly 1st division (as was) team. It's not like we have gained a load more fans since we became 'successful'.

I have to admit our form of late hasn't been spell binding, nor in fact that exciting to be honest. But then again that isn't why I support boro. I support them because they always try. We don't have as much money as chelsea, arsenal or man u, but we don't let that stop us going out and giving them a good match (see arsenal result, mwahahaha). But then we go and play a match like wigan, which we really should win, and make stupid mistakes, looking like a totally different team. And I think that is why I support boro, for the crashing disappointment, but the knowledge in the next game we could be a completely different team, and that gives me hope.

Anyway, who wants consistency.

Come on boro!

If we all need incentives to go to the riverside on a cold thrusday night, just think about John Barnes and his wonderful presenting that we would have to endure if we watched the boro on channel 5!!!
